Among the Churches

Current Notes

Phoenix, Arizona (First Church).—The magnificent new home of First Church of Christ, Scientists, of Phoenix, is now open for services. The church stands on the southwest corner of First and Roosevelt Streets, with the facade placed diagonally on the corner and facing what will be within a few weeks a beautifully gardened plaza. The architecture is a unique and thoroughly pleasing conception, somewhat resembling the classical style. Delicately tinted walls and pale blue art glass window give the structure an air of peaceful serenity. The church is a one-story building extending about one hundred feet along both First Street and Roosevelt Street. Rubber marbled tiles cover the floor of the foyer so that no sound of footsteps will be heard in the auditorium, which is normally capable of seating about six hundred persons. In cases of necessity the seating capacity of the auditorium may be increased by about one hundred. The church contains twenty-six Sunday school rooms. A corridor runs along each series of rooms and connects directly with the foyer.—Arizona Republican.

Lake Worth, Florida (Society).—Christian Science Society of Lake Worth is now holding services in its own church edifice. The uncompleted structure is no North Lakeside Drive, near Twentieth Street. The building is to be of classic design, white stucco, and the front is to be adorned with a portico having four columns. The building is sixty feet long and forty feet wide.—Lake Worth Leader.
