My blessings are indeed numerous, and the space allowed...
My blessings are indeed numerous, and the space allowed us here could not possibly contain the half of them. Once a delicate woman, I am now a strong, healthy, active one, able to do more to-day than I was ever capable of doing before. Chills, neuralgia, stomach trouble, a very delicate condition of the throat, from which I suffered all my life, disappeared with the revelation of Truth. Some years ago, I underwent several operations, two of which were for an internal trouble that caused much pain and weakness. I left a nursing home "nothing bettered," and with the promise that a third and very much more serious operation would be needed before I could possibly hope to be well. It never took place; for this trouble, too, left me as the other ills did.
Very soon after the last operation I went to England with three young children. For two years I went on suffering, feeling at times too exhausted to care to live. Truly, "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I attended my first Christian Science service in Bournemouth, and know that my healing started there. As I sat in the then small church, a most wonderful sense of peace and love filled my whole consciousness. I can never forget it; I came out knowing that I had found the true God, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."
The following morning I borrowed the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. How I loved it! For quite six months I read nothing else but it and the Bible; and I have not read much else since. My first lesson to learn from this book was how to love, and how to put into practice what I learned. Severe cases of influenza, what appeared to be appendicitis, croupy coughs, bad sprains, measles, were met and overcome instantaneously. Many problems have been solved—trouble, sorrow, and difficulties of all kinds; but I can say with joy, that in the overcoming a bigger and clearer understanding of our Father-Mother God has been gained.
