It was not for physical healing that I came to Christian Science...
It was not for physical healing that I came to Christian Science, but to find the way out of discord, fear, and discouragement. Although I read the Bible every day, there was much in it that I could not understand, and I longed to see people healed in the way Jesus healed them; for when a child my parents had taught me to look for this Christ-healing, although they did not know how or when it was to be restored. Finally, a member of our family was healed of a severe malady through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through that healing I became interested in Christian Science and took up the study of its textbook. I began right away applying what little I could understand of it to my daily problems, and found that whenever properly applied it brought relief.
Since then many problems have been met for myself and others. One healing for which I am very grateful was the overcoming of an impediment in my speech. At first this yielded very slowly, until I saw that selfishness and disobedience delayed my progress. When these were put aside, I realized my freedom, seeing that "right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action" (Science and Health, p. 454).
I am grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving Christian Science to the world. I am grateful to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to God, the Giver of all good.—(Miss)Margaret Macdonald, Boston, Massachusetts.
