In the year 1909, through seeing a fellow-worker enjoying better health, and learning that it had been gained through the study of Christian Science, I began to seek an understanding of this religion. Very shortly afterwards, I was healed of grief; and although many other demonstrations have since been made, to me this was most wonderful, for it was just when the feeling came that there was nothing to live for, all being dark and lonely, that I seemed to hear, "God is Love; God loves you;" and then came the awakening. The second time I attended a Christian Science church service I saw how grand it was to get the same service twice. "The evening service is a repetition of the morning service" (Christian Science Quarterly, Explanatory Note). I felt I must have a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to study the Lesson-Sermon daily. Just then, if any one had told me that I would be buying a book at the price paid, although I now know it is priceless, I should have thought it impossible; but the demonstration was made.

One morning at church to my surprise a friend asked me whether I subscribed to any of the Christian Science periodicals. I was then only buying a Christian Science Sentinel from time to time, so she explained that it might help me if I subscribed. It seemed just then that I could not afford to do so, but I thought it out, and decided that I could drop something I had not much use for, and that I could afford it; and I soon subscribed for The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and our newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor. These have brought many blessings, as well as the overcoming of a sense of lack and limitation. Many physical ailments have gone out "under the blaze of Truth" (Science and Health, p. 296), including quinsy, tonsillitis, severe colds, and rheumatism. The last-named had been held before me as a certainty since girlhood.

For all these blessings I am most grateful; also for the Church Manual and all our Leader's writings; for the authorized literature; for the better outlook on life and the joy of being able to see and help others to the better understanding of God; for membership in a branch church and The Mother Church; and for the privilege of class instruction. I am grateful to God for the Way-shower, Christ Jesus, who promised us this Comforter, and for Mary Baker Eddy, who was so loving and patient, so strong and so pure, as to be able to reveal to us this practical religion, available for all time.
