The Fiction of Age
Since God is Truth and since God is Life, as the Bible and Christian Science teach, it follows that laws of Truth are laws of Life. Now God is All-in-all; hence laws of God—laws of Truth and Life—are the only real statutes. That which professes to be law, but is contrary to divine Life, has no true being, power, or reality. Then the belief of age, which is contrary of Life, is outside the pale of law, utterly lawless and unlawful. So age is a fiction of belief, not a fact of being. "Enoch walked with God,"—thought and lived with Truth,—"and he was not; for God took him." Enoch, as well as Moses, Elijah, and Jesus, proved the words of Paul, "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Therefore, in order to establish for ourselves the law of Life, and so put to rout the fiction of age, we must know and live in accordance with the laws of Truth.
Consistency is one of the laws which prevail in the kingdom of God, the realm of good. God, divine Mind, is by His very nature consistent. The fact that God is always everywhere and good admits of nothing except good where God is or where His creation is. Because consistency prevails in the kingdom of heaven, where the real man abides, there is no door open for age to enter. Mortals alone can believe that age is coming on. Life, the real, never comes or goes, but is forever here and now. So age cannot come to the real man, for age—darkness—cannot exist in the presence of Life's idea, the light. He who lets his light shine—knows and practices Truth—dispels the darkness of age. Hence John could say: "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." So consistency, a law of Being, a law of God, expunges from human consciousness the fiction of age.
Continuity is another of the laws of Truth which ends the beliefs in the claims of age. Truth is continuous: it has no beginning; it knows no end. Of God, Truth, we learn in the Scripture that with Him "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Man, the son of God, the reflection of Truth, the expression of Life, is like his Maker. So man, God's spiritual idea, continuously expresses Truth, in which there is no place for error. This real man, continuously reflecting Life, is untouched by declining years. In certain quarters an assault on a traveler is styled "a hold-up." So the fiction of age might be called "a hold-up," for the purpose of robbing us of our right to unending life. The law of continuity defeats the robber thought, and leaves us free to realize that age is a fiction and that our heritage is eternal life.
