In thinking over experiences since taking up the study...
In thinking over experiences since taking up the study of Christian Science, I am indeed grateful for benefits received. From my earliest recollection I had suffered almost incessantly from nervousness, sick headaches, insomnia, and stomach and bowel trouble, which were supposedly inherited. At the age of twenty-five these seeming troubles had reached their climax. I was taking medicine to quiet pain only, as I had lost all faith in its power to heal. I was also informed by my last physician, who was very kind and sincere, that nothing could be done for me and that I should prepare for the end! At this point, and in a very discouraged and despondent mental condition, I was handed the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I condemned the book, as well as what I thought Christian Science to be. However, "man's extremity is God's opportunity." One evening, after other members of the family had retired, I began to read this book; and after reading the first three pages of the chapter on Prayer, I knew I was healed. After the first night's sleep I had had for months, I ate and enjoyed the first meal I had eaten for years; and the bowel trouble, as well as all pain, had fled.
Since then I have had other severe experiences that have been overcome by earnest study and application of the truths taught in the Bible and in our Leader's writings, and with the aid of faithful practitioners. We have found this truth adequate to meet all needs in our family of three children during and since their birth, and have witnessed wonderful healing results with animals when the truth has been intelligently applied.
I am indeed grateful to God, the Giver of all good; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to Mrs. Eddy, through whom this truth was revealed and founded in this age; to the faithful practitioner for help in times of need; for the Christian Science periodicals, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.
