I am most grateful for the ever present, ever available, and ever operative law of God, as taught in Christian Science. I think those of us who have been reared in this teaching, and have so naturally turned to the God of love to meet every situation, do not always realize how very grateful we should be.

When a child of five years I was very delicate physically, and also homeless. Being of Holland birth, I could not speak the English language. Fortunately, I was led into a Christian Science home. I was immediately taught to spell and repeat the words from the four short propositions found on page 113 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In a very short time, by daily patient practice, I learned to read these sentences; and thus the English language just simply unfolded. I loved the truth; and the understanding of God as Love and as my Father-Mother, ever guarding and guiding, so protected me that I began to gain physically.

On account of my physical condition I was kept out of school until I was nine years of age, when I was placed in the class in which I would have been had I never missed a day. During these years out of school, my first lesson each day was from the Lesson-Sermon contained in the Christian Science Quarterly, with its references from the Bible and Science and Health.
