Human Need

On page 307 of "Miscellaneous Writings" our Leader writes, "Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment;" and she later says, "This sweet assurance is the 'Peace, be still' to all human fears." To one suffering from a belief of lack, this statement may seem difficult to prove; yet there are thousands who every day are proving it for themselves and for others, through learning to trust to the ever present help of divine Love, and are thus enjoying the sweet "Peace, be still" to every suggestion of doubt that would invade the sacred precincts of holy thought.

When a young student of Christian Science, the writer was under a dense cloud of having no material means of support; and following the dictates of mortal mind was rushing here and there and everywhere, seeking employment but finding none. In dire extremity, overwhelmed with doubt as to where the next day's food was to come from, she met a dear friend who was a Christian Scientist, and who had with her a tiny niece about three years old. This child was asked if she could sing as her aunt did. In reply she nodded her head and sang the beautiful hymn which begins,
