Having taken up the study of Christian Science for a...
Having taken up the study of Christian Science for a healing nineteen years ago, I found, after benefits received, a spiritual uplifting that led me to investigate still further; and by close application I was indeed blessed. Many other conditions were overcome, and still more uplifting came that urged me on.
In February, 1921, my daughter became extremely nervous. 'She did not seem to respond to the help given her, but grew worse, and in October, spasms were very numerous. Living in the Northwest, I brought her East to my father and sister, so that I could give her all my attention, employing a faithful student of Christian Science to work and watch with me, and overcome what seemed very real about the child. The second week of February, 1922, found her released. There were many nights and days when it seemed that nothing was accomplished, but I held to that beautiful saying of our Master, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." I am very grateful for the good I received from that statement; for many beliefs, both physical and mental, were destroyed. The child knew when she had her healing; for at nine o'clock in the morning, after a long struggle in the night, she reached up and said, "Let us go to sleep;" and then we rested in the spiritual uplift. God is indeed merciful and gracious.
Another proof of God's love in keeping His promise was the healing of my middle finger from the effect of a horse bite, received when I was quite a child. A surgeon told me that as I grew older my fingers would stiffen. On taking up the study of Christian Science I asked about deformities, and was told that a loving, interested study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, would give me an understanding of the Bible that would enable me to think well, live well, and be well.
