The proof of the healing power of Christian Science has...

The proof of the healing power of Christian Science has been fully demonstrated to me in my own experience. While I was working in a chemical laboratory at school, a glass tube which I was holding slipped and broke, entering the base of my right palm and cutting the artery and several nerves. I immediately declared the truth, with the result that no confusion, or crowding, or fear on my part followed, although there were seventy-four other pupils in the room. Because of the intense fear of the others, I allowed myself to be taken to the hospital. Word was sent home, and my father responded. I knew the minute he had begun to work for me. I myself kept on working mentally; and through it all my consciousness was clear, and no faintness was experienced. My father came just as the doctor had finished taking some stitches, and took me home. No pain was experienced until the second day. Then the pain became so severe that I felt a practitioner was necessary. The next morning it had lessened somewhat. That night there was to be a lecture at the church, and my mother and I went. It seemed to be a constant fight to hear the lecture, as the pain increased; but one thing came clearly to me as the lecturer uncovered fear of the mysticism of materia medica. That night I decided to have the stitches taken out—I had feared taking them out before. Then I slept peacefully. The next morning there was no pain whatever. The practitioner had treated me during the night, but she felt it unnecessary to continue.

Easter vacation was soon finished, and I went back to school. There I met such opposition and questioning that I allowed my thought to become unsettled and irritable. The result was that the artery broke again after the flesh had healed. A blood sac formed, manifested in a large purple lump on the hand. Until I graduated that June not much change took place. I kept up the work, however, and am grateful to say that the healing has been accomplished. Even the use of two fingers on the hand has been restored, although it had been predicted that they would be entirely useless to me in the future on account of a cut nerve. There only remains a fast-disappearing scar as evidence of the accident.

Although the healing was slow, I am more grateful than I can express. It seems as though there has been more spiritual uplift and unfoldment during the last three months than I ever experienced before. My twin brother and I had had Christian Science help since we were five, but the necessity of working out one's own salvation first came to me during this healing. I am very grateful for this demonstrable Science, and to its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.—(Miss) Edna Marshall Zollars, New York, New York.
