Several years ago, after years of misery and pain, I came to what seemed to me would be the end. I was stricken in my place of business and taken home, where for over a year I battled with the "last enemy," exhausting nearly all material means, such as medical doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, and change of climate, but no improvement was realized.

One day a friend came to visit me and left a book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on my table, saying I might read it and get some good out of it, as he did not want it just then, and I could keep it as long as I wanted to. I thanked him for the courtesy, but for months left it lying where he had put it. However, one day when I did not see how I could exist much longer in the condition I was in, I asked for the book and read it for nearly two hours. Although I was hardly able to read at the beginning, I seemed to grow stronger; and after reading for quite a while I arose and asked my wife to get me something to eat. I had not partaken of any substantial food for eight months or more, having been on a diet all that time. Filled with fear, my wife tried to have me change my mind, as eating prior to this had been the cause of wretched pains; but knowing as I did that it could not possibly do me any harm, I persisted, and, thanks to God and Mrs. Eddy, I have since then eaten anything I wanted. At this time I learned, through a friend, of a very dear practitioner, who has since given wonderful assistance to me and to my family, the members of which have also received many healings. Since we came into Christian Science our home is a place where God is spoken of as never before.
