Our Goal

It is not, perhaps, until we begin to understand something of the teachings of Christian Science that we realize that we have a goal to reach, and see that Paul's admonition applies to us: "Work out your own salvation." Before the truth as revealed in this Science dawned upon our thought, we may have been drifting through life with no fixity of purpose, quite uncertain as to why we were here and whither we were going. All was uncertainty.

We might here ask, What is the goal that Christian Science has shown us may be attained? Is not the answer, Our unity with God, with eternal Life, Truth, and Love? This high goal can be reached only by walking in the way that Jesus walked, by striving to have the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." He was the Way-shower; and it was he who declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 426): "The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it." And so, in the journey from sense to Soul let us follow the example of our beloved Leader and have the high goal always before our thought.
