[Written for the Sentinel]

Nathanael of Galilee

Nathanael
Thou of Galilee,
In meditation wondrous sweet,
Did angels come to thee,
And with message so divine,
That thou its import sought to know?
Then when a voice said, "Come and see,"
In calm obedience thou didst go.

Nathanael—
Thou of Galilee,
Could salutation e'er excel
The one the Master gave to thee?
And thy thought so free from guile
Pierced through the veil that did becloud;
And with undimmed vision clear
Didst thou behold the Son of God.
