Four years ago last spring I found myself unable to hold longer my position in the business world. Giving it up, I spent the following summer at my home in the country. I asked a kind neighbor, a Christian Scientist, to teach me something about her religion. She began by having me come to her home once a week to read the Lesson-Sermon with her. Later, while she visited in a large city for a few weeks, she lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read it through, and then commenced the daily study of the lesson alone. In the fall of that year I returned to the same business house I had left the preceding spring. I was given work in a much more interesting line. Then, a little later, a more responsible position was offered me; and my salary was increased from time to time.

At the right time I sought a Christian Science practitioner, who lovingly pointed me to the divine Principle governing man. The privilege of attending a branch church in the city where I was employed was eagerly seized, and through the good there unfolded, the help of the faithful practitioner, and the study of the Bible, together with Mrs. Eddy's writings, I was led from the darkness of Egypt, across the Red Sea, on through the wilderness of human beliefs until I caught glimpses of the promised land. To say that I am grateful seems such a little thing; for since that fall I have not had to be absent from business so much as a day in each year because of personal ill health. The happiness and joy I have found right here are very precious; but for the wonderful privilege of class instruction and my slight understanding of man in God's image, I think I am most grateful. I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
