[Written for the Sentinel]

The Garden of Thought

The Father hath given each child of His care
A garden implanted with seedlings so fair;
The buds and the blossoms are molded above,
Their petals all perfumed with meekness and love;
Oh, blest is our God-given garden!

The garden He gives us is purified thought;
So precious its blossoms, they cannot be bought;
They bloom in abundance where hearts are imbued
With mercy, all selfless, and great gratitude;
Twice blest is our God-given garden!

In this garden of thought, no malice is there,
Nor sickness, nor sorrow, nor weeds of despair;
But the love-lilies pure and roses maintain
A fragrance that banishes all sense of pain;
Thrice blest is our God-given garden!

We thank Thee, dear Father, for th' garden of thought;
We thank Thee for blessings Thy seedlings have brought;
For bud and for blossom each molded above,
The petals all perfumed through meekness and love;
Oh, blest is our God-given garden!
