[Written for the Sentinel]

A Morning Prayer

Dear Father, as I face the morn
And watch the rising sun,
I pray for light to do Thy will;
I pray my thoughts may injure none,
But bless them, every one.

I pray my actions, great and small,
Through all the coming day,
May send each one that I may meet
With happy, joyous thoughts away,—
May lead no one astray.

If I am faithful to my prayer,
When day its course has run,
With duties ended, tasks complete,
I'll know a higher step I've won
And hear my Lord's "Well done."
