Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1924

for the Province of Ontario, Canada.

A marked increase in a tolerant and friendly attitude by both the secular and the religious press is progress which occasions no surprise. The corrective replies necessary have been largely due to the increased general interest in spiritual healing, and the attempted comparison or association of Christian Science with the methods and results of faith-healing campaigns. A respect for Christian Science not before felt or expressed is the outcome of this thoughtful comparative examination. The consistently dignified church and lecture newspaper announcements, the increased recognition of our lecture reports as of desirable constructive news value, and the unobtrusive harmonizing and healing results in the varied activities in which Christian Scientists are engaged, are not lost on keen and influential observers.

The denominational papers have been receiving weekly the Christian Science Sentinel; and The Christian Science Monitor is valued, and at times favorably commented upon. Three of the four Toronto daily newspapers now subscribe for the Monitor, and the fourth is expected to do so any day. There is unanimity of appreciation for its service to them. The editor-in-chief and the city editor of one have decided, upon representation made by your committee, to have deleted from sermon reports adverse comment on Christian Science, "supported as it is by a reputable class of citizens in the community."
