For a long time I have wanted to express my gratitude...
For a long time I have wanted to express my gratitude through the periodicals for a healing I experienced about seven years ago, and more especially for the way in which the healing came about. For quite four years I was conscious of a small, hard lump on my body, but did not bother about it as long as it did not pain me; but when at times the pain became very acute, I made on each of these occasions good resolutions to do good systematic mental work for myself to uncover and destroy whatever claimed to be manifesting itself so discordantly. On each occasion, however, as the pain was overcome, my good resolution went with it. The consequence was that a time came when the lump grew rapidly larger, very tender to the touch, and extremely painful. Fear grew in proportion. I felt cornered, as it were, and was compelled to renew my resolution, and this time to keep it. On page 255 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "As mortals drop off their mental swaddling-clothes, thought expands into expression." Those two lines helped me more than any others when I first took up the study of Christian Science, and again they came to my aid. I once more set out to realize the truth for myself to the best of my understanding. I refrained from looking at or feeling this lump; and whenever I became conscious of it and fear surged in, I stood firm in the realization that nothing exists but God and His universe, peopled with His ideas, all governed and controlled by His spiritual law, all as perfect as the Father, now. I must have worked on these lines about ten days, never once allowing fear to get the upper hand. In about a fortnight, on going to bed one night, I found there was nothing left to work for. The abnormal growth had faded out of consciousness, and the healing was complete. I cannot begin to express the gratitude I felt for such a sure proof of the efficacy of persistent, honest right thinking.
For all the help Christian Science has been to me, and for the untiring efforts of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in showing us how to make the teachings of the Bible practical to-day, I am truly grateful.
