Full of gratitude for Christian Science, I should like to...

Full of gratitude for Christian Science, I should like to bear testimony to the marvelous manner in which my life was saved through my faith in its teachings.

During a visit in the province of Hannover, in November, 1922, my mother-in-law and I rode on bicycles to Lehrte to make some purchases. As we were on the highway entering Lehrte, we had to make way for a heavily laden peasant's wagon. In so doing, I slipped on the wet road and fell in front of the wagon wheels. It may be noted here that the wagon weighed about six thousand pounds. The wheel of the wagon passed across my breast and over my shoulder bone. With my breast completely crushed, so that it made breathing almost impossible, I was carried to the nearest house, where I received first medical aid. The doctor's analysis was: a completely crushed chest, injury to the lungs, and loss of blood from the heart. My first thought was of death, especially since I had lost my husband in a similar way. Then I turned my whole thought to the teachings of Christian Science; and immediately the pain diminished and I could breathe more easily. In about a week I had completely recovered, and again attended to all my customary work. The pastor of our village, who came to see me often, could not comprehend my healing, and described it as a great miracle of God. But I knew that I had been restored to life and to my children through my faith in God and the teachings of Christian Science.
