[Written for the Sentinel]

Prayer

How can I ask a God of love
To take away all pain,
While giving power to gods unknown?
Such prayer is all in vain.
How can I pray His loving hand
A blessing to bestow,
While fearing that an evil power
His kingdom might o'erthrow?

When God created all in Mind,
Affirming all is good,
His work was finished and complete.
This truth, if understood,
Will banish sickness, sin, and death,
The myths of mortal mind,
And man, revealed as God's own child,
We His true image find.

God's ever listening ear is reached
Through truth, and truth alone;
The ways of erring mortal mind
To Him are false, unknown.
He never fails to answer prayer,
A faithful, earnest call,
For He is God, omnipotent,
His truth is all-in-all.
