I have been a student of Christian Science for about...
I have been a student of Christian Science for about four years. In this short time, many healings have been witnessed. Having exhausted the skill of the doctors in my home town, I went east to America's most skilled physicians. They told me nothing could be done. It was on my way home that I began to pray that a way out of my distresses might be shown me. Nearly a year later I noticed the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on a shelf in the public library. I took it home to examine it, as so many non-Scientists had urged me to try Christian Science. One of these friends talked an hour to me one morning, telling me of the wonderful healings she had witnessed. Like one drowning, who clutches at a straw, I too grasped at what I thought was my last chance for relief. The first healing was instantaneous,—that of chronic constipation with paralysis of the bowels. The other healings were slow. Among other ailments of which I have been healed were chronic stomach trouble of five years' standing, chronic liver trouble, chronic sick headaches, a very aggravated displacement, catarrh of the head and throat; also, hasty temper, timidity that was a torture, fear, hatred, selfishness, and faultfinding have been overcome. Melancholy has been replaced with joy. I formerly weighed ninety-eight pounds; now I weigh one hundred and eighteen pounds.
I am very grateful that I am living in an age when I too can learn to sing this "new song." I am grateful for membership in a branch church, and for membership in The Mother Church. I am grateful for Mrs. Eddy's pure life, which enabled her to give to the world Christian Science. I am grateful for the periodicals, which are a source of inspiration to me. I am grateful for all students, practitioners, lecturers, and officers throughout the entire Christian Science movement, and daily pray for their guidance. So, with His hand to lead us and His angels to guide us, may we, in the way He appoints, strive to reach the heights of the Revelator and view "the holy city" or "new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."
