Inspiration

WHEN we understand, through the study of Christian Science, that all divine revelation and inspiration come, now as in the past, from God, the Giver of every good and perfect gift, we are more grateful for and more deeply appreciative of the truth as revealed by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 319), "The divine Science taught in the original language of the Bible came through inspiration, and needs inspiration to be understood." In Job we read, "But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." And inspiration has been defined as the "imparting of an idea; . . . sanctifying influence of the Holy Spirit."

Through a study of the pages of history we may acquaint ourselves with many wonderful proofs of faith rising to the point of inspiration. Christian Science is teaching mankind the vital difference between a blind faith in God and a faith inspired by spiritual understanding. This distinction is found in the life and demonstrations of our Master, Christ Jesus. It again appears in the teachings of Christian Science, making Christianity practical, and enabling mankind to take every problem direct to perfect Principle, God, there to find a correct solution. Faith must rest upon the firm foundation of spiritual understanding. When the truth concerning God and man's unity with Him begins to unfold and illumine consciousness, men become receptive of, and indeed inspired with, Life, Truth, and Love.

In human experiences we may find ourselves seemingly tossed about on an angry sea of materiality, buffeted by the elements of error or so-called mortal mind, expressed in self-will, hate, greed, or some form of fear. Many are also struggling against the cruel waves of selfishness, and are crying out, "Lord, save us: we perish." Where may earth's burdened ones find true peace? Christian Science comes as the Comforter, as the "still small voice," to recall those who have wandered through ignorance or sin into the wilderness, where human hopes have failed and love's labor has seemed lost.
