Over thirty years ago my mother was suffering from what the leading physicians of the place pronounced a cancer. While she was deliberating over the advisability of an operation, her attention was turned to Christian Science. A new student of this teaching was in the habit of calling on my father at his place of business, wasting, as he then considered it, his valuable time with her arguments. One day, to free himself of this encumbrance, he said to her, "You go to the house and heal my wife, and then I will talk with you." The student did as directed. She went to the house, and in two weeks' time my mother was entirely free from that so-called incurable disease. During all these intervening years she has remained free, not only from that, but from many other ills with which she had been afflicted. Both of my parents became deeply interested in this healing truth.

Years passed. While I gave but little attention to the teaching which had wrought so much good in our family, the "little leaven" was at work, to enable Christian Science to be called into operation again for the healing of my little son. When he was three years of age, through an accident he sustained a hernia, which the attending physician said would have to receive radical treatment. It was at this time, during the drear watches of the night, when the frailty of all earthly hopes and aims was realized, that Christian Science was again presented to me, coming as a heavenly visitant, bringing sweet assurance and peace. The child was immediately placed under the care of a Christian Science practitioner, and in six months was freed of the hernia. Later he was healed of constipation, with which he had been troubled from birth, and of what the physician, who had attended four generations of the family, pronounced an inherited dyspeptic stomach.

While yet in the commencement of my studies in Christian Science, I was healed of a condition of the eyes which had necessitated the wearing of glasses for many years. Nervousness and irritability have been proved to have no place in God's perfect creation. For fourteen years Christian Science has been "a very present help" in troubles of all descriptions for every member of the family, guarding in time of fire and affording wonderful protection in automobile accidents, wherein we could not be too grateful for the realization that it was not chance that saved, but "God's unerring direction," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 424 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
