On the magazine page of your paper of January 12, 1924, under the heading of "Book Reviews," C. M. Jackson, in comment upon the book, "Faith and Health" by Charles Reynolds Brown, dean of the divinity school, Yale University, is incorrect in at least one important particular.

The review avers that the author of the book studied under the late Mary Baker Eddy. This is an old question which came up many years ago in this section of the country, to be corrected by Christian Scientists, and is corrected so far as they are concerned. When Dr. Brown was pastor of the First Congregational church in Oakland, he made similar statements in his sermons at that time. As Mary Baker Eddy was still with us, the matter was investigated. When Dr. Brown was approached upon the subject in 1907, he admitted that he was not a student of Mrs. Eddy, and had no diploma from her college in Boston, and stated that he had been misquoted. Letters of correction at that time were sent to the Oakland Tribune, Oakland Enquirer, San Franciso Examiner, and San Francisco Chronicle on June 25, 1907, and to the Bulletin on June 24, 1907.

When these sermons were preached about Christian Science, many members of the Rev. Dr. Brown's church withdrew their membership and began to investigate the healing system of Christian Science. As a result, some are now active workers in the Christian Science churches in the east bay section, and some are practitioners maintaining downtown offices. Would it be unreasonable to believe that this book, "Faith and Health," will bring forth similar results?
