The teachings of Christian Science are founded wholly on the Bible. Christian Scientists maintain that the term "scientific" is correctly applied to the Sermon on the Mount, but that the teachings have been misunderstood and separated therefrom. A teacher is best honored by those students who obtain results, and so prove their understanding. Christian Scientists thus honor Christ Jesus as adherents of no other religion do to-day. In further explanation, the following passage from a paragraph with the marginal heading, "The main purpose," on page of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is quoted: "The mision of Christian Science now, as in the time of its earlier demonstration, is not primarily one of physical healing. Now, as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin,—to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the world." Christian Scientists rejoice at every indication in the world today of, as they believe, the unfolding of a better understanding of God, who, as Mrs. Eddy writes (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 10), "afflicteth not willingly the children of men, who are punished because of disobedience to His spiritual law."
