It is with loving gratitude to Christian Science that I give the following testimony.
A few years ago, while playing at a professional engagement in Boston, a friend asked me to attend The Mother Church service one Sunday evening. I had never heard of Christian Science, and to please the friend, I attended the service. This experience proved later to be the turning point of my life, though I attached no importance to it at the time. In fact, as we traveled farther west, I completely forgot about Christian Science, until an experience in a western city led me again to this blessed truth.
A disease that had been with me off and on for eighteen years, and had been pronounced incurable, returned with terrific force. There came with it a great sense of pain, also extreme discouragement. I wanted to end my life, but instead was led, while out walking, to a Christian Science Reading Room, which was on the main street. I could not help seeing it. Like a flash, I was lifted to a new hope in life. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was bought; and returning to the hotel, I read for several hours, and experienced relief. However, this disease did not leave completely for several years; and for this I am grateful, because there was so much to overcome in my thinking. I had to learn obedience, humility, and especially gratitude for work done by kind practitioners. In the meantime, other diseases left never to return. Among them were constipation, tonsillitis, and insomnia (up to that time I had never slept without taking powders). Influenza was healed in one treatment. As I continued to study more faithfully, and learned to give as well as to receive, the first-mentioned disease was completely healed.
