Since babyhood I had been troubled with severe constipation,...
Since babyhood I had been troubled with severe constipation, and at the age of ten was taken ill with stoppage of the bowels, which resulted in appendicitis. This developed later, during the illness, into a severe case of spinal meningitis, the physicians saying the poison had gone to the brain. I was attended by six doctors, five of whom were the city's best specialists and physicians, and the doctors' two nurses. Finally, the physicians said I would not last until morning. At this point my mother decided to try Christian Science and called a practitioner. When the practitioner arrived, the nurse said that I was dying. The practitioner hastened to my beside, and although I had been unconscious during the two weeks' illness, in less than a half hour I was sitting up in bed repeating the words, "God is my Life." The doctor's nurse said she had seen many little children pass on, and that I would have been gone in a few minutes, as there was every evidence of approaching death. She said, "I do not know what that man did, but I do know that he performed a miracle." The next day I walked into the adjoining room; and in less than two weeks I was back at school. Many persons who lived in the apartment house at the time said the healing was wonderful, and they too turned to Christian Science.
I am now sixteen years old. I am a member of the Christian Science Sunday School, and have never attended any other. For this healing and many others, and for Mary Baker Eddy's wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I am very grateful to God.
