It is clear to thousands of people that "matter and Mind are opposites. One is contrary to the other in its very nature and essence; hence both cannot be real. If one is real, the other must be unreal," as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 270). The use of the word "is" in making a statement does not always imply "existence." You may say a thing "is" nonexistent. Using the word "is" in such a sentence would not make the thing exist. Whatever really exists must have permanence and stability, which matter and error have not. To those who accept the great truth that God is the only creator of the universe, that which is opposed to Him can be said to have no permanent existence, however real it may seem to be for the moment. The lie of evil has no reality; its seeming vitality is relative to its acceptance. When rejected by all, it will cease to seem to exist; whereas the great fact that God is All-in-all will remain true, whether accepted or not. Its vitality is intrinsic and absolute, to be proved by every one. May it not be truthfully said that a claim which is a false claim is no claim at all? Truth is that which is.
