Christian Science teaches belief in, and entire reliance on, God. There is not a word in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, or in any of her other works, or in any of the authorized literature of Christian Science which, when understood, can by the wildest stretch of the imagination be construed as antagonistic to the Bible. Christian Scientists are daily students of the Bible. In 1895 Mary Baker Eddy abolished all personal teaching in Christian Science church services, and ordained the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," to be "the only pastor of The Church of Christ, Scientist, throughout our land and in other lands" (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 313, 314). Thus the Bible is probably accorded a more important place and used to a greater degree in the services of Christian Science churches than in those of any other denomination. Christian Scientists believe in God's Word and have implicit faith in His promises. Through the understanding of God, gained from their study of the Bible together with the textbook, Christian Scientists are preaching the gospel, regenerating the sinner, helaing the sick, and casting out devils, or evil, in Christ's name, as Jesus did and as he taught his followers to do.
