Permit me to thank you for your editorial of recent date, which includes several helpful points, and which also very generously accords Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, full credit for making the healing of physical disease incidental to the teaching and living of Christian Science. However, your statement that "no one church need monopolize the teaching and practice of healing the sick through prayer and suggestion" implies that Christian Science couples suggestion with prayer, which is just the reverse of the fact. Christian Science never resorts to suggestion, but stands squarely on the platform announced in the first chapter of Genesis, that man is made in the image and likeness of God; and the realization of this eternal fact destroys discordant conditions, whether mental or physical, as they are not included in God's creation. Mrs. Eddy makes this very clear on pages 476 and 477 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" in the statement: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."
