My interest in Christian Science was aroused partly because...
My interest in Christian Science was aroused partly because of a desire for physical healing, and partly because of a desire to keep abreast of the times. I often felt in the way while visiting many friends who were students of Christian Science, as it was impossible for them to avoid discussing their favorite subject. Thus, while my study began mainly with a wish to be conversant with Christian Science, I soon discovered that I was deeply interested and eager to see if I could prove this law of God for myself. This opportunity was soon vouchsafed.
A skin eruption, which previously had been treated by a doctor with no assurance of permanent relief, reappeared. For three months I worked faithfully in Science, but the disease spread, finally becoming visible to others and thus causing much concern among my family and my friends. Discouraged, but unwilling to ask for help, for I knew I should never be satisfied until I had proved this scientific rule for myself, I persisted. Then one evening, praying for guidance, I opened "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 25) and read, "The spiritual essence of blood is sacrifice." Instantly the lurking thought that poor blood was causing the condition, thus bringing about fear and discouragement, was overcome, and God as the only cause was revealed. I awakened the next morning completely and permanently healed. Since then I have never doubted Christian Science.
Other healings have been numerous and various, such as the overcoming of a chronic condition of influenza, without being confined to my room for a single day, of colds, of seasickness, of fatigue, and of a sense of worry and responsibility. Some of these healings have been instantaneous, some have taken time, but with each and every one of them has come added growth in Christian Science. Thus I have learned that all problems are only opportunities for proving the allness of God.
