Christian Science healings are effected without regard to...
Georgian American
Christian Science healings are effected without regard to the so-called material sciences, which constantly change their basis, mode of operation, and system of application. A standard dictionary defines the word "science" as "knowledge classified and made available in work." It was Christ Jesus' knowledge of God, as All-in-all, and of man's sonship with God, that made possible his works, causing the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lame to walk. Christians will not deny that the Master used an exact Science, for his method of healing never changed; nor did the application of his Science, the Science of Christ, or Christian Science, ever fail to meet every human need. Christian Scientists, obeying the Scriptural injunction to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick, are repeating the works of Jesus and his apostles to-day, and are healing the sick more perfectly and completely than any other system in the world; because this Science not only is efficacious in mental diseases, but heals "all manner of disease among the people." Christian Science does not begin by teaching cheerfulness; it begins first by teaching the truth about God. When God's love for all His children is comprehended, and His ability and willingness to provide for, protect, and govern them is demonstrated, then cheerfulness and health result, in accordance with the Scriptural promise, "Happy is that people, whose God is the Lord."
Mary Baker Eddy, with her accustomed spiritual foresight, correctly classifies Science as an emanation of Him who made all things. On page 127 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook of Christian Science, she writes: "Science is an emanation of divine Mind, and is alone able to interpret God aright. It has a spiritual, and not a material origin. It is a divine utterance,—the Comforter which leadeth into all truth." When Christian Scientists are troubled with problems of any nature, they do not push them aside by saying they "never happened." No! rather do they turn to the Comforter that leads out of mental darkness into the light of spiritual understanding, proving that "in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
