When I became interested in Christian Science, about...
When I became interested in Christian Science, about eight years ago, I was a physical wreck. After spending much time and money at a sanatorium in the North, the mountains in the West, and taking mud baths in an eastern state, I returned home in a very weakened condition with little hope of ever getting well. After reading some Christian Science literature which a friend left at our home, I went to a practitioner. I was healed in a few weeks' treatments, and indeed became "a new creature." I have since been healed of a severe attack of rheumatism. Three years ago I had both bones broken in one of my legs, between the knee and the ankle, and the surrounding flesh crushed by a harrow. I have been so completely healed that there have been no after effects whatever.
While I am indeed grateful for all the healings we have had, the one for which I am most grateful is the wonderful healing, nearly two years ago, of our little seven-year-old boy. He was taken ill with a very malignant form of typhoid fever which lasted eight or nine weeks. For several weeks, to mortal sense, he lost his eyesight, hearing, and speech; and from five to fifteen minutes at a time during a period of two weeks there would be hardly any sign of life whatever. Subtle error would occasionally try to keep us from being patient and faithful enough with the two loving practitioners who stood by us day and night, in relay, so loyally at that time; but we held on to Christian Science. When the child was able to leave his bed, he had to creep on the floor until he learned to walk again. Friends and neighbors seeing him then tried to make all sorts of after-effect laws and condemned us for holding to Christian Science. He gained in flesh and strength rapidly, however, and in a short time was back in school, where he was later given special promotion. He is perfectly healthy and normal in every way.
I am indeed grateful to God and to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science; also, for class instruction; to the kind and loving practitioners; and for all the good that has come to me and mine through the study of Christian Science.
