Christian Science teaches that God does not cause sickness...
Herald
Christian Science teaches that God does not cause sickness or pain and is in no manner responsible for them. He created all that really is and all that He created is good. Suffering and pain cannot be included in good, consequently they are no part of God's creation. The false beliefs and erroneous thinking of the human mind are responsible for discord of every character. During his brief ministry, Jesus healed all manner of disease, and commanded his disciples to "preach the gospel" and "heal the sick." He also gave the promise, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." If sickness and pain are in harmony with God's will, Jesus would not have gone about healing the sick, nor would he have commanded his followers to do likewise. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy has written (p. 206: "Instead of God sending sickness and death, He destroys them, and brings to light immortality. Omnipotent and infinite Mind made all and includes all. This Mind does not make mistakes and subsequently correct them. God does not cause man to sin, to be sick, or to die." Christian Scientists are taught that God's creation is perfect and harmonious, and that sickness and discord do not proceed from Him, and are therefore unreal. They are the result of false material beliefs, and may be overcome and destroyed in human consciousness through the understanding of spiritual truth.
