However manifold are the problems that confront us...

However manifold are the problems that confront us, just as manifold is the applicability of Christian Science. If we let ourselves be governed unreservedly by God, and not in the least by so-called mortal mind, then every problem will be solved in a surprisingly short time and in a wonderful way. But we must let ourselves be drawn by the gentle current of divine Love, and never be carried away by the hurricane of human self-will. It was my privilege to experience, in a seemingly serious case of lung trouble, the truth of the ever present all-power of God and the good gained by devoting one's love to it.

Shortly before my marriage I was compelled to stop work and to place myself under medical treatment, as required by the sick benefit law of the institution where I was working. The trouble was diagnosed as an affection of the lungs, and the presence of tubercles was discovered. For these reasons it was deemed necessary for me to go to a sanatorium. I was very unhappy about it; but through my first conversation with a Christian Science practitioner the sense of depression was lifted, and happiness again brought within my grasp. The understanding that the ideas of God can never be discordant or destructive, and that man in the realm of harmony is ever healthy, gave me confidence. "I am the Lord that healeth thee," we read in Exodus. I placed myself entirely under the protection of God, and one problem after another was quickly solved. My marriage took place; and when the doctor learned that I was having Christian Science treatment he said I need not take medicine; nor was I sent to a sanatorium, much to the astonishment of those not interested in Christian Science. The choice of the place where I could recuperate was left to me, so that Christian Science treatment could be continued without interference from outside. In a short time I was able to resume my work. The Lord has done great things for me.

It was during this struggle with error that I really learned to recognize and understand the Science of Mind as a religion which we can apply in all circumstances with practical results. I have learned to see that we must apply its teachings daily, if we are to go up higher in the understanding of our true being; for "the one unused talent decays and is lost," as Mrs. Eddy writes on page 323 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
