[Written for the Sentinel]

My Prayer

Oh , give to me an understanding heart,
That I, in fullest measure, may impart
A message of Thy tenderness and care
To those who seek Thy graciousness to share.
And as I thus Thy wondrous love proclaim,—
Which now, to-day, and ever is the same,—
May Christlike gentleness so speak through me
That those who hear may reverence Thy name,
And, seeking, find Thy love; and trusting Thee
May learn that all the clouds upon life's way
Are but the shadowy dreams of yesterday
And not realities. So shall I be
Forever conscious of Thy faithfulness,
And strive from day to day Thy name to bless.
Thus shall I prove that those who seek for Thee
Find Thee as Love and All, eternally!
