I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, although I needed it, but to find a solution to the many problems which continually presented themselves.
Many years ago a dear friend in America sent me copies of the Christian Science periodicals, which I always read. Later, I received "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I just looked through this book, as I would any other book, but did not understand it or feel in need of spiritual things; my needs seemed to be material. The book therefore was laid aside until a great sorrow came into my life. Then I began to look around for help. I opened its pages again, and began to attend the Christian Science church services. I was at that time a member of the English church here. I first attended for more than two years the service at the English church, but always tried to get to the Christian Science service also. One day the truth dawned on my consciousness that the help I needed was to be found only in Christian Science. I then left my old church.
My first healing was of rheumatic gout, which doctors had told me was incurable. This healing came about by trying to realize the truth contained in the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). My joy was great when I found I was healed. I then knew that Christian Science was the truth which Jesus said would make us free. I have also been healed of heart disease and several minor ailments.
