It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I look back on...

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I look back on the thirteen years in which I have been a student of Christian Science, and realize the immeasurable good which has come to me and mine in that time through its ministry. The first problem which the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, met for us was at the time of the passing on of our mother. The sense of separation was healed by the application of what little we knew of the truth which makes free. My sister and I faced the world as orphans, and with financial resources suddenly swept away from us. Every material need has been met, and the "priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness," as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 366), has been manifested through many friends and helpers.

I have been healed of a severe attack of pleurisy, of influenza, and of a tendency to take cold easily. A case of measles was completely overcome for me in one day. A badly sprained ankle was also quickly healed. Perhaps the most helpful experience I have had has been the slow healing of eye trouble. I wore glasses when I took up the study of the textbook. A few months later I was forced to cease using my eyes altogether because of severe pain in them. It took me nearly a year to learn enough of what true vision is to go back to my books and work. Another year's experience was necessary to enable me to dispense with glasses. My eyesight is now phenomenally good.

Far above and beyond these material benefits is the knowledge we have gained of God through the inspired writings of our revered Leader.
