The Restoration

Tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him.—Mark 16:7.

Dear Galilee, sweet trysting place,
Blest memories of thee arise!
There have I seen the Master's face;
There heard his voice in glad surprise;

There, too, beheld his wondrous power:
The lame, the sick, the blind, were healed,
The dead were raised, in one brief hour,—
So great the love to men revealed.

In tender love for me he prayed;
Yet in his hour of bitterness
I failed to watch: I slept; yea, strayed,
Denied my Lord, so great the stress.

I go away to Galilee!
Triumphant over mortal sense,
My Lord will show himself to me,
If I but go in penitence.

With chastened thought I go, and wait,
Assured that Love will evermore
Meet all my need,—my grief abate,
My hope renew, my soul restore.

Within Love's presence life I found,
And precious peace without alloy;
Th' eternal grace doth me surround.
O Love divine! how sweet Thy joy!
