Branch Church Services

The Board of Directors wish to call attention to some statements in the leading editorial, "Duty Fulfilled," in the Sentinel of August 11, which might be taken as a requirement that all branch churches which do not hold Sunday evening services shall do so.

A branch church which holds one Sunday service and the Wednesday evening meeting, in accordance with the provisions of the Manual, is meeting the requirements of the By-Laws so far as its services are concerned, until local conditions and the best judgment of the membership call for more than one Sunday service.

Branches of The Mother Church must determine for themselves as to the advisability of holding two Sunday services (see Article XXIII, Sections 1 and 10). Section 1 reads, in part, "The Mother Church of Christ, Scientist, shall assume no general official control of other churches, and it shall be controlled by none other."
