Christian Science is based on the teachings of the Bible...

Christian Science is based on the teachings of the Bible and was practiced by Christ Jesus. He never taught his followers to "forget pain," that in this way they might heal themselves or others, but he taught them to follow the way which he pointed out and to obey his commandment, "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink." Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science and the author of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes on page 497 as the first of the tenets of Christian Science: "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

To center one's thought, either to cultivate a pain or to eliminate it, is mere self-suggestion or hypnotism, and has nothing in common with Christian Science, which wholly condemns all that comes within these concepts. In Science and Health are several chapters which teach completely how to discern between the healing power of the Word of God and the destructive effects of human will-power. Mrs. Eddy writes on page 383 of Science and Health: "We need a clean body and a clean mind,—a body rendered pure by Mind as well as washed by water. One says: 'I take good care of my body.' To do this, the pure and exalting influence of the divine Mind on the body is requisite, and the Christian Scientist takes the best care of his body when he leaves it most out of his thought, and, like the Apostle Paul, is 'willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.'" By following the teaching of Christ, men are enabled to correct their false thoughts, so as to bring them into accord with the Christ-mind; and they will then learn the truth as given in the words of Christ Jesus, when he said, "The kingdom of God is within you."
