Christ Jesus recognized that the world was suffering...

Hull Daily News

Christ Jesus recognized that the world was suffering from what Mrs. Eddy describes on page 110 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as "the awful unreality called evil." He proved the unreality of sin by destroying it. Christian Scientists realize that to human belief sin is a terrible reality. Seeing, however, that it can be destroyed,—and the unreality of sin is proved to an extent by every one who refuses to yield to sin and temptation,—sin is only as real as it is believed to be.

The one who believes in the reality, power, and pleasure of sin is a sinner, and he remains a sinner so long as he sins; and sin carries with it its own punishment. Sin is unknown to God, who is "of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." The true man of God's creating, being His own image and likeness, is sinless.

The beloved disciple, John, declares, "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." Sin is therefore the outcome of belief in the reality of something which God has not made, and is idolatry. The Apostle John also says, "All unrighteousness is sin." Unrighteousness is wrong thinking; and the only way to overcome sin, unrighteousness, or wrong thinking is by right thinking, which, in turn, manifests itself in right living.
