About nine years ago the practical use of Christian Science...

About nine years ago the practical use of Christian Science in the healing of disease was forced upon my notice by the healing of my mother. She was freed from a periodic chronic bronchial condition, from which she had suffered for many years. This healing came through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. That the healing came from some change in her mental outlook was apparent to all.

Feeling and knowing that I must find something to lay hold of to preserve a mental balance for myself, I began to read Science and Health, and the promise found in the Bible, "He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness," was fulfilled. During this period a painful condition of the heart attacked my husband. After applying to a Christian Science practitioner, he was healed by a few absent treatments. Soon afterwards, although still timid, I discharged the physician and asked for Christian Science treatment for our second child, a boy, who was suffering from an intestinal disorder that was very painful and that did not respond to material treatment. Much to my joy and surprise, he was relieved in one treatment and experienced no return of the condition.

Then I began to believe that indeed there was an available Principle by which one could work out his life-problems. Our daughter was healed of measles by absent treatment in a week. The youngest child has had physical conditions corrected which, according to human belief, would have necessitated the use of a surgeon's knife. The healing of so-called children's disease never fails to be an inspiration. The annulling of so-called laws of duration, the doing away with convalescent periods, and the joyful sense of dominion recommend Christian Science to all.
