When Jesus was before Pilate he made this statement:...

When Jesus was before Pilate he made this statement: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." As Christian Scientists, we joyously acknowledge Christ Jesus as our Way-shower, and desire to do the works he did, and to follow him in all his ways to the full extent of our understanding.

Eight years ago I began the study of Christian Science in earnest, the motive being to find a more satisfying way to live. The years before, even with earnest effort, had meant failure in the vital things of life. I knew some of the fundamental truths of Christian Science through relatives, so was able by the reading and study of the four gospels, including Jesus' healing works, to demonstrate over serious physical disorders,—stomach trouble which had followed me from childhood and which grew worse with the years, headaches, constipation, excruciating pain which recurred at intervals, and many other lesser, though very troublesome disorders.

In my ignorance, I was waiting for a so-called miracle to put the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, into my hands, having been told that when I needed one it would come to me! I learned, however, to act; so I took almost my only five dollars of available money, and purchased this wonderful book, receiving, in consequence, numerous blessings,—too many to mention here. The way in Christian Science has not been easy; nor has the truth been lightly gained. It has been a battle every day, aggravated, no doubt, by self-will and digression. The weak places in disposition had to be overcome. Constant vigilance alone means progress.
