W. Stuart Booth

Referring to man, the Bible states, "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he;" Christ Jesus said that one is not defiled by the food he eats, but rather by the evil thoughts he may accept and express. Paul wrote, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." The healing method prescribed and practiced by Christ Jesus, whether the healing was of sin or of sickness, was spiritually mental in that it dealt with thought conditions instead of with matter; and Christian Science is based solely upon the Bible. Nevertheless a true Christian Scientist would not tell a sufferer that he merely thought he was sick, nor that he would be scientifically healed by simply thinking that he was well. Rather would he point out that, according to the Bible teachings as proved in the works of Christ Jesus and his followers, sickness is not sent by God nor divinely authorized, but is from Satan, the liar and father of lies. Therefore the Christian Scientist would properly recommend the prayerful method of the Master, who said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." On page 460 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "Sickness is neither imaginary nor unreal,—that is, to the frightened, false sense of the patient. Sickness is more than fancy; it is solid conviction. It is therefore to be dealt with through right apprehension of the truth of being. If Christian healing is abused by mere smatterers in Science, it becomes a tedious mischief-maker. Instead of scientifically effecting a cure, it starts a petty crossfire over every cripple and invalid, buffeting them with the superficial and cold assertion, 'Nothing ails you.'"
