In "Unity of Good" (p. 37), in her article entitled, "Is There No Death?" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Human beings are physically mortal, but spiritually immortal." She writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 426), "Sin brought death, and death will disappear with the disappearance of sin;" but she says also in "Unity of Good" (p. 43), "The achievement of this ultimatum of Science, complete triumph over death, requires time and immense spiritual growth." The teaching of Christian Science that the belief of death will be eventually overcome is founded on Scriptural authority. Paul wrote, "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." Death, then, is an enemy of man, and the promise is that it can and will be overcome in time.

Christian Science is founded on the teaching and practices of Jesus the Christ. Jesus healed by knowing the truth, and not by any so-called power of suggestion. Jesus knew that sickness and sin, so far as mortals are concerned, exist only in human belief; and because he knew that, his knowledge of the truth healed men of sickness and sin, as Mrs. Eddy says, "by one and the same metaphysical process" (Science and Health, p. 210). To illustrate: Suppose one receives a telegram that a relative is dead. He grieves about it, but no amount of suggestion will destroy his grief. Yet if one who knew the facts told him that the telegram was a mistake, and that his relative was not dead, but alive, the truth would deliver him from his grief. His cause for grief existed only in belief. Christian Science heals people of erroneous beliefs about sin, sickness, and so on, only by making known to them the truth. Christian Science does not make its only appeal to physical well-being; its greatest appeal is in turning one to his spiritual well-being. Christian Science teaches that the Bible account of man's origin and nature is true,—that man is made in the image and likeness of God, and that therefore man's well-being is intact, whole, perfect, spiritual. As for mortals, they have but to awake to the truth about God and spiritual man, that they may recognize their spiritual well-being, and this will enable them to find their physical well-being as well. It is not recorded that Jesus was ever sick.

There is no real reason for any class of persons to be "poor." "Blessed are the meek," said Jesus, "for they shall inherit the earth." God has provided a way for all men to inherit all good of every sort. "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." The Bible is full of references to God's goodness to those who turn to Him for their supply. The supply of one's needs comes from a spiritual source, not from a material source. God made everything that was made. Mortal man can originate nothing, make nothing, apart from God. Christian Science preaches the gospel of Christ to every creature: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
