Your report that a Congregationalist minister visiting in Boston has denounced Christian Science and Christian Scientists reminds me, by contrast, of a recent sermon by another Congregationalist minister from the Pacific coast. Recently a clergyman of San Francisco, California, delivered and published a sermon in which he summed up his opinion of Christian Science as follows: "Christian Science is idealism enthroned." Then he went on to speak of Christian Scientists, and ended with the following paragraph: —

"I like the Christian Scientist, last, and best of all, because he is honestly trying to produce and reproduce the life of Jesus, here and now. The Christian Scientist believes that the life of Jesus can be realized, in doctrine and practice, in modern times. So they give themselves to thought and daily con the pages of Holy Writ and smile as though they were billionaires in spiritual blessings. I like the Christian Scientist. If this be heterodoxy, make the most of it. I like him best of all because he would bring Christ from the skies and enthrone him in the affairs of our modern life—here and now."
