I wish to tell of a healing I experienced while on a summer practice cruise. Our squadron was en route to Balboa, Canal Zone, from a California port. It was early in August and we were in tropical latitudes with very little breeze to ventilate the ships below decks. At this time I was in a detail which was standing watches in the boiler rooms.

After we had been four days at sea, I came off watch one night feeling completely exhausted and with a dull ache in my head. I washed and turned in, hoping to relax and rest. As soon as I lay down, everything became a blank. I awoke from this stupor several minutes afterward, wet with perspiration and unable to move. The pain above my forehead was increasing. I began to apply what understanding of Christian Science I had. In about five minutes I fell asleep and awoke an hour later at reveille refreshed, strengthened, and feeling exceptionally well. I stood my regular watch that afternoon and experienced no return of the trouble during the remainder of the cruise, although there was hot weather with scarcely a breath of wind for long periods.

This acute condition was not healed by ignoring the same, as many might ignorantly believe. It was the application of such understanding of God as I was able to apply, which met my need. This understanding can be gained by an earnest study of the Bible together with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy. I am grateful to Christian Science for much besides physical healings. It has given me a practical religion, refined my temperament, strengthened me morally, and proven a true help in many vicissitudes.
