To-day we may point to the fruits of Christian Science...
To-day we may point to the fruits of Christian Science as proof that the Christ, Truth, is ever present, and that " 'the Word' is 'made flesh' among mortals" (Unity of Good, p. 39). From the viewpoint of maturer years I look back upon my childhood, in which, from infancy, the truths of Christian Science were a constant guide and protection. I early learned that, when lived, Christian Science is an effectual preventive. Once, during my school years, I recall having been quite seriously ill. Through the knowledge of the teachings of Christian Science we knew that God is Life and that "Life is reflected in existence," as we read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 516). The healing was accomplished in three days and I was able to return to school. We later heard that the neighbors had been very much disturbed about my condition and were expecting the worst to happen.
One day when I was about fifteen years old, I started out in a heavy snowstorm for a music lesson. After waiting for the street car about half an hour I was informed by a passer-by that they were not running. Though it was extremely cold and windy I decided to walk to the conservatory, a distance of approximately two miles. When I arrived, my hands were stiff and swollen. The professor doubted my ability to take my lesson, but I assured him that everything would be all right. I did my work as I had been taught at the Christian Science Sunday School, and when he was ready for me about twenty minutes later my hands were normal, and I have never experienced any ill effects. Christian Science has been the panacea in our home for thirty-two years. Each member of our family of five has felt its healing balm. Dyspepsia, catarrh, fevers,—in fact, all discordant conditions that have arisen in our home during these years have been overcome through the understanding of God as learned in Christian Science.
I am profoundly grateful for my early Sunday school training. At the time the first branch church in this city was being erected, a very valuable lesson in giving was learned, for which I shall never cease to be grateful. I am, grateful also for the privilege of imparting this truth to the children of to-day and for every opportunity of being of service to my fellow-men.—(Mrs.) Norma B. Voney, St. Louis, Mo.
