Denison (Iowa) Bulletin and Herald
An article in an issue of the Denison Bulletin and Herald headed, "An Answer and an Inquiry," calls for a few words in reply. It is not surprising that the aforesaid article is in no sense an answer, for creed and dogma are as dumb before Truth to-day as they were in the time of Jesus.
Christian Science teaches exactly what Jesus taught. It is the religion of the Master in all its simplicity and in its entirety. It is both practical and scientific. It makes God understandable and altogether lovely. Christian Scientists are doubtless the most thorough Bible readers in the world. They are too busy learning more about God, striving to follow where He leads, realizing His kingdom on earth, to attack another's belief. They never do. They accord to every one freedom of conscience and the right to whatever belief about God he pleases. They obey the Scriptural command that we must all work out out own salvation.
Christian Scientists are of the opinion that the average man of to-day does not believe in preaching simply because it is preaching. Such a man wants results, not arguments. He wants Truth, not creed or dogma. Christian Science demonstrates Truth. This religion of the Master brings these results when properly understood and applied. In the degree that they understand his teachings, Christian Scientists demonstrate Truth with the works following, obeying the Master's command, "Go, and do thou likewise." Does our critic heal the sick? If not, why not? In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 15): "Practice not profession, understanding not belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and they assuredly call down infinite blessings."
